Knowing when it’s time for senior living.
Senior living communities offer a sense of belonging and purpose which plays a vital role in happiness and well-being. Life in a community offers daily social interactions, a full calendar of activities, meals, support and so much more.
It’s difficult to match the activity and 24-hour support found in a community. And even though it’s common to hear, “I wish I moved here sooner,” knowing if the time is right for someone you love is hard.
We’re here to help.

The first steps.
First things first. Take a step back (and a deep breath) and start to assess how much help is needed with everyday life, and how a senior living community could help. Things to consider:
Has there been a noticeable decline in health, or is there a chronic condition that is becoming harder to manage at home? Senior living communities offer professional, around-the-clock care and support and can manage a variety of chronic conditions and health issues. And, in the event of an emergency, someone is always available to help.
Have you noticed changes in grooming, bathing or dressing habits? Poor hygiene can be a telling sign that it might be time to consider a senior living community. Assisted living communities provide help with the activities of daily living including bathing, dressing and grooming.
Is meal planning and cooking becoming a challenge? Have you noticed significant weight loss? Is there a concern about lack of fruits and vegetables? Have you noticed spoiled or expired foods in the house? These are all issues that cause concern. Assisted living can be a wonderful solution because three nutritious (and delicious) meals are served each day. Unlimited snacks, too!
Changes in the way the house and yard are kept can be a red flag. Is the house messier than usual? Is the normally well-manicured yard overgrown? Unkempt homes and yards may not seem like a concern, but they can pose health and safety hazards (i.e. clutter can cause falls, unclean surfaces breeds bacteria). Senor living eliminates this worry. All cleaning, maintenance and yard work is included in the monthly fee.
Are prescriptions being followed? Are they up to date? Managing medications can become more challenging with age. Senior living communities oversee this process so there are no worries about getting the right dose at the right time.
Are bills being paid — on time, or at all? Differences in how the finances are being managed could be a concern. This is another worry senior living communities can eliminate. One monthly fee covers most all expenses — the apartment, lifestyle, services, amenities, meals, and 24/7 support.
Research has linked social isolation and loneliness to higher risks of a variety of physical and mental conditions. Is your loved one spending too much time alone? Have favorite activities become a thing of the past? Senior living communities foster strong social connections, making them great places to forge new friendships.
Your health and well-being matter, too. They play a crucial role in your ability to be the caregiver you want to be. If you’re feeling constant fatigue, stress, anxiety, or depression, you might be suffering from burnout. Reach out for help and find outside support. Only then can you truly support your loved one.
Our decision to choose [Cascade Living Group] has turned out to be one that has made a wonderful change in our lives and hers. I only wish we had not waited so long.”
